Wisconsin member Kim Corcoran and her 16-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse Dashing Player (Play It Again Skip x Dashing Lad), bred by Ann Schedel, ended the 2017 Competition Season at the top of the Region 5 Novice-level charts.
Kim has owned Dashing Player for 12 years, and the two have done so many things together, “We LOVE to trail ride. We’ve been all over the US,” Kim explained, “We also enjoy dressage and Cowboy Dressage.”
“She has a large heart (really we think she has a large heart like Secretariat), and she tries so hard to please me,” Kim reflected. “She’s also kept me safe over 100’s of miles of trails all across the country over the years.”
Kim was introduced to the sport of Working Equitation by a friend, who invited her to attend a clinic . “My friend and instructor, Patty Fitzgerald invited me to watch a WE clinic in December, 2016, and I knew I had to try working equitation,” she explained.
“It’s a fun challenge. Riding with finesse through the obstacles makes it so much more rewarding than just a standard trail class, and the speed round is fun to challenge ourselves, and the dressage keeps us working correctly. WE has helped my horse learn patience and gain confidence.”
When asked if there was anyone in particular she would like to thank, Kim responded, “Thank you to everyone who’s been involved in bringing WE to the Midwest! Special thanks to my mom for keeping me company in all of my WE adventures. Hopefully she’ll bring her horse along next year! I’d encourage everyone to give working equitation a try!”
We agree, Kim, we think it’s time your mom joined in the fun as well!
