While the majority of the country endured blasts of winter weather, California brought out the sun for its first WE show of the 2019 season, and 21 horse/rider pairs enjoyed a full day of showing in the picturesque setting of Pence Ranch in the hills of Buellton.
Andrea Sullivan and Ce’u do Fino swept the three-entry Introductory Amateur class, with 64.79% in Dressage and 62.81% in Ease of Handling. Janet Priest and Superproof came in 2nd in Dressage (64.58%) and third in EOH (58.12%) to finish 2nd overall. Marnie Barrett and Heliodoro GFB came in 3rd in Dressage (56.04%) and 2nd in EOH (59.37%) to place 3rd overall.
Abigail Followwill and El Campeón’s Donatello won the four-entry Introductory Open class, placing 2nd in Dressage (64.79%) and 1st in Ease of Handling (66.56%). Jessica Mosbaugh and SS Burney came in 4th in Dressage (56.04%) and 2nd in EOH (57.18%) to finish 2nd overall. Nicole Chastain and Tiara Nicolette came in 1st in Dressage (68.75%) but disqualified in EOH to place 3rd overall. Jessica Mosbaugh and Legendary S came in 3rd in Dressage (63.95%) but disqualified in EOH to place 4th overall.
Logan Farrer and Famous won the two-entry Novice A Amateur class, placing 1st in both Dressage (64.54%) and Ease of Handling (55.55%) and 2nd in Speed (4:41.95). Pat Duran and Marlin came in 2nd in Dressage (62.04%) and EOH (54.44%) and 1st in Speed (3:19.71) to finish 2nd overall.
Abigail Followwill and El Campeón’s Cochise won the seven-entry Novice A Open class, placing 3rd in Dressage (65.90%), 1st in Ease of Handling (61.16%) and 2nd in Speed (2:56.76). Nicole Chastain and Lakeside Manor came in 1st in Dressage (70.90%), 3rd in EOH (61.11%) and 5th in Speed (3:03.89) to finish 2nd overall. Jessica Mosbaugh and Bravo Rascalena came in 5th in Dressage (61.81%), 2nd in EOH (63.33%) and 4th in Speed (3:02.51) to finish 3rd overall. Nicole Chastain and Paso Doble WAE came in 2nd in Dressage (67.95%), 4th in EOH (59.72%) and 6th in Speed (3:52.10) to finish 4th overall. Lisa Scebbi and Zillertal Atom came in 6th in Dressage (60.45%), 5th in EOH (51.94%), and 3rd in Speed (2:57.44) to finish 5th overall.
Bryan Ludens and Lark of Honor Bright swept the one-entry Novice B Open class, with Lifetime Rider Medal Qualifying Scores in Dressage (63.39%) and Ease of Handling (65.27%) and a time of 3:03.46 in Speed.
Nicole Chastain and Sausalito Jullyen V won the four-entry Intermediate A Open class, placing 2nd in Dressage (65.42%), Ease of Handling (65.27%) and Speed (2:20.16). Susan Watkins and Kiger Dios Estoy Aqui KCA came in 3rd in both Dressage (64.71%) and EOH (62.50%) and 1st in Speed (2:17.14) to finish 2nd overall. Nicole Chastain and Dunit Extra Dry came in 4th in Dressage (61.57%), 1st in EOH (68.05%) and 3rd in Speed (2:25.90) to finish 3rd overall. Bill Deeney and Certero BOT came in 1st in Dressage (66.85%), and 4th in EOH (56.38%) and Speed (3:15.84) to finish 4th overall.
