Show Report: HCWE October 2017

Twenty-three competitors braved unusually severe winds to compete in the final licensed competition of 2017 sponsored by High County Working Equitation and judged by Tarrin Warren, R, Texas.

Kate Fowler rode her Clydesdale mare Rebecca Jill to a clean sweep of the 8-entry Introductory Amateur class, winning both Dressage (66.19%) and Ease of Handling (73.95%) to win the Overall class. In doing so, she and Rebecca Jill also launched themselves to the #1 spot in the Introductory Level National Standings.  Amateur owner Mary Sadler and Heart came in second in both Dressage (65.24%) and Ease of Handling (69.95%) to take 2nd place overall, even when both Amateur and Open riders’ points were combined. The additional points earned by Jo Bottorff and Nu Kind of Diamond at the competition moved the pair into the 6th place in the National Standings.

Amateurs similarly dominated the Novice A division, where Jo Teter rode her mule Teter’s Copy of Bandy to a first place finish overall with their 1st place win in Dressage (66.36%) and Speed (2:30.8) and a 3rd place finish in Ease of Handling (62.62%). In the process, Jo and her two mules (Teter’s Copy of Bandy and Teter’s Dazzle) earned enough points to move Jo Teter into 2nd place in the Novice level National Standings.  Amateur owner Barbara Harris rode Fortunate Destiny to a 2nd place finish overall, coming in 2nd in Dressage (66.14%), 1st in Ease of Handling (66.43%) and 5th in Speed (2:46.8).

Of the three Open division Novice A competitors, Lyndsey Fitch and Levi placed 1st overall (Dressage 65.46, Ease of Handling 66.43%, Speed 3:39.8), followed by Maree McAteer on Marco (Dressage 55.68, Ease of Handling 59.29%, Speed 2:36.0).

Lauren Gueswel and Smart Uno Olena won the 2-entry Intermediate B Open class, with a Dressage score of 58.85, an Ease of Handling score of 60.24%.

Results of this show also shifted the Regional Standings a bit, moving Kate Fowler and Rebecca Jill into the lead at the Introductory level and Jo Bottorff and Nu Kind of Diamond into 4th place in Region 3, Cindy Branham and Lucky are holding steady in 2nd place in the Region, while Kara Honeysuckle-Mehaffy and Diaman H De La Creme are standing in 3rd place overall for Region 3 Introductory level riders.

At the Novice level, Jo Teter is in 1st place in Regional Standings with Teter’s Copy of Bandy and 2nd place with Teter’s Dazzle, while Barbara Harris and Fortunate Destiny are in 3rd and Kim McBroom and Oakley Twisting Lark are in 4th.
