Region 5 members joined together to usher in the 2018 competition season at the beautiful Fox Valley Saddle Association show grounds in Hampshire, Illinois. Cari Schwartz, r, Oregon served as the judge, with Sharon Kinney acting as Technical Delegate.
We were delighted to welcome new members Eleanor Thomas, Becky Sherven, Lisa Hamiel, and Mary Barr as well as a bunch of returning competitors, officials, and volunteers.
Toni Harmon and ELS Scottish Lad came in 2nd in Dressage (score of 63.40%, collective marks 52) and 1st in Ease of Handling (65%) to win the Overall Champion title in a the 11-entry Introductory level class. Sandy Klinkey and Coco‘s 3rd place finish in Dressage (score of 63.40%, collective marks 51) and 2nd in Ease of Handling (61.88%) clinched their Reserve Championship Overall.
Howard Peet and Jubiloso del C came in 1st in Dressage (64.57%) and Speed (3:14.1) and 2nd in Ease of Handling (59.44%) to clinch the Overall Champion title in the four-entry Novice A class. First-time Working Equitation competitor Mary Barr and Chip earned 2nd in Dressage (61.09%) and Speed (3:45.1) and 1st in Ease of Handling (60%) to win the Overall Reserve Champion in the class.
Heather Lekan and Mizz Cora came in 1st in Dressage (53.47%) and Ease of Handling (63.89%) and 2nd in Speed (2:52.1) to win the Overall Champion in the two-entry Intermediate A class. Howard Peet and Luchador BP finished 2nd in Dressage (52.91%) and Ease of Handling (59.44%) and 1st in Speed (2:44.8) to win Reserve Champion Overall.
Toni Harmon and ELS Scottish Lad also took home a lovely prize basket donated by the Righeimer Law Firm in honor of earning the highest average Dressage and Ease of Handling score of the day (64.2%) , out of all competitors at all levels.
