Show Report: R5 Halloween Bash, II

Fifteen eager competitors gathered at the Fox Valley Saddle Association facility in Hampshire, Illinois for a full day of friendly competition, officiated by Judge Nicole Chastain Price, r, California, and Technical Delegate Sharon Kinney, Wisconsin.

Illinois resident and amateur owner Sandy Klinkey rode her Spotted Saddle Horse Coco Babe to a clean sweep of the 8-entry Introductory level class. In the process, her 65.95% in Dressage and 65.63% in Ease of Handling also earned her a lovely gift basket donated by Righeimer Law Offices, Christine Righeimer, for highest combined Dressage and Ease of Handling scores at the show. Amateur owner Kris Blacklock brought her four-year-old Quarter Horse mare Boon Ocean Blue from Wisconsin to finish 2nd overall at the Introductory level.

Wisconsin rider Kim Corcoran and her Appendix Quarter Horse mare Dashing Player came in 2nd in Dressage and 1st in both Ease of Handling and Speed to finish 1st overall in the five-entry Novice A class.  In addition, the two won the “Most Improved” Dressage score award, and took home one of the gift baskets donated by Kris and Dale Blacklock, by making the most gains in their Dressage tests from Saturday to Sunday.

Michigan member Karen Rach-StClair rode her Grade Azteca mare Salina to a 1st in Dressage and a 2nd in both Ease of Handling and Speed to take Reserve Champion for the day.

In the process, Kim Corcoran and Karen Rach-StClair both earned a qualifying score toward their Bronze Lifetime Rider medals.

Erica Peet and P.R.E. gelding SM Serafin, owned by Janita Smith, turned in some of their best Working Equitation rides to date at this competition, earning a 63.75 in Dressage, a 64.74 in Ease of Handling, and successfully finishing the Speed trial. In the process, Erica earned two more scores toward her Silver Lifetime Rider medal in Working Equitation.  The two also won the gift basket donated by Kris and Dale Blacklock for demonstrating the biggest improvement in Ease of Handling score from Saturday to Sunday’s competition.

Scores earned at this competition helped secure spots in both the National and Regional Leaderboards for Region 5 members. At press time, Kris Blacklock and Boon Ocean Blue are 1st in National standings, while Maureen Tolemy and Comedian’s Silkyair are 3rd in the Nation, Christine Righeimer and Whisper are tied for 5th, Sandy Klinkey and Coco Babe are  7th, and Toni Harmon and ELS Scottish Lad are 9th in the nation.
