Show Report: River Run Aspen Premier Competition I

Twenty competitors enjoyed a glorious day of Working Equitation competition at the beautiful Aspen Farms facility in Yelm, Washington, competing on August 5, 2017 in the first licensed competition hosted by River Run / Becky Mathews.

Denise Lukins and her Haflinger gelding Mahon II FLH placed second in Dressage (61.67%) and first in Ease of Handling (72.94%) to take home the overall win in the five-entry Introductory class, with Samantha Westby and her Quarter Horse gelding Snippers Remedy coming in second.

Lizann Dunegan and her Andalusian gelding Miguel BTSF placed third in Dressage (64.31%), first in Ease of Handling (76.94%) and third in Speed (3:30.7) to take home the overall win in the 11-entry Novice A class. First-time WE competitor Deirdra Dong and her Haflinger gelding Indy came on strong to finish second overall, with a first place (68.88%) in Dressage, a sixth place in Ease of Handling (72.22%), and a second place in Speed (3:02.7).

In the two-entry Novice B class, first-time WE competitor Cheryl Rife and her Azteca mare Nova brought home the overall blue, with a second place finish in Dressage (58.65%) and first-place finishes in both Ease of Handling (68.33%) and Speed (4:33.5). Morgan Wagner and her Andalusian stallion Sephiroth won the Dressage trial (62.1%) to take second overall.

The two-entry Intermediate B class, was won by Morgan Wagner and her Appaloosa gelding Endo the Blind, with a second place finish in Dressage (67.41%) and first-place finishes in both Ease of Handling (76.38%) and Speed (4:30.3). Nicole Grous and her Lusitano gelding Zar Ris took second overall.

Lizann’s scores at this competition made her the fourth person in the United States to earn her Bronze Medal in Working Equitation. Congratulations, Lizann! Other competitors who earned qualifying scores toward their Lifetime Rider Medals at the weekend’s events include: Deirdra Dong, Jennifer Lenz, Kent Wright, Anne Lobeck, Denise Lukins, Kimberly Roe, Ashley Smith, Morgan Wagner, Cheryl Rife, and Nicole Grous.

A number of horse/rider pairs qualified for the WE United National Championships at the show: Deirdra Dong and Indy, Mary (Cassy) Holcomb and All Reddy Crowned, Jennifer Lenz and Poplar’s Samoa Star, Kent Wright and El Bonito, Anne Lobeck and Rio, Kimberly Roe and KF Shenanigans, and Cheryl Rife and Nova.
