Two of the Top U.S. Riders Share Their Insights

Posted on Posted in Education, News

The May 2017 issue of We Ride Sport and Trail magazine includes an article featuring two of the top U.S. Working Equitation riders: Doreen Atkinson and Lisa Harding, both Texas-based WE United members.

Doreen and Lisa are the only two U.S. born competitors to have shown to date at the Master’s level in the sport (Doreen on her self-trained half-Lusitano gelding Obadi del Dios and Lisa on Carbon, an unregistered gelding who likely hails from Quarter Horse lineage and who was trained by Lisa’s husband Randy Byers). In addition, both have shown at the lower levels on horses they have trained.

Lisa is currently tied for 6th place in the National Standings at the Intermediate Level based on her performance with Sandhaven Shameless and is 4th in the National Standings at the Novice Level, having earned points showing both Sandhaven Claire de Lune and Sandhaven Chanel, Australian Stock Horses owned by Kellee Campbell of Sandhaven Performance Horses.

Doreen is preparing her four-year-old Lusitano for his entrée into Working Equitation and has also shown Anakin, her half-Arabian Pinto, at the lower levels.

In addition to their knowledge gained as competitors and trainers, Doreen and Lisa bring additional insights to the sport. Doreen was one of the first three Americans to earn her WE Judge License, while Lisa recently completed the WE United Judge Training and has applied to become a licensed judge with WE United.  As an equine photographer, Lisa brings an additional perspective to the sport.

We hope you enjoy the article!
