The Big Sky Horse Park in Missoula, Montana welcomed 18 horse/rider pairs to the state’s second licensed WE competition on Sunday, June 30, 2019. Judge Erica Peet, r, Illinois, officiated, while Julie Alonzo, Oregon, served as Show Manager and Secretary, and Sheila Mealey, Montana, was the event organizer. Many volunteers helped make the show possible.
For the second consecutive show, Trisha Kiefer-Reed and the Appaloosa gelding Highly Prescribed earned the highest score in Ease of Handling, out of all entries at all levels, simultaneously sweeping the nine-entry Introductory level and bringing home Overall Champion honors. Marlene Bigsby and Yahoo Heartbreaker came in 2nd place overall, while also earning the High Point Australian Stock Horse award, a lovely prize cooler donated by Melissa Kay Main. Jan Harris and Shelby came in 3rd overall, Ahna Mayo and Yahoo Playmate came in 4th, Holly Haeger and Rockinus Reckless Abandon came in 5th, Trisha Kiefer-Reed and Tesoro Oscuro came in 6th, Kay Greeley and Rambling Colonel came in 7th, Sheila Mealey and Air Horse One came in 8th, and Melissa Kay Main and Brumbysrun Tech Warrick came in 9th.
Kenton Wright and the Lusitano Hamlet JC earned the award for highest Dressage score of the day while also securing the Overall Champion at the Novice A level. Kenton rode Damona Hill to a 2nd place finish overall, Kalaloch to a 3rd place finish overall, Hemene to a 4th place finish overall, and Sundance to a 6th place finish overall. Nancy Johnson rode her Lusitano Fiona DC to a 5th place finish overall, while Rhonda Berglund and her Canadian horse E.X. BoumBoum Lollipop (Brim) earned 7th place honors, Jody Anderson and Sugar came in 8th, and Wendy Deans and CD Patty Pep came in 9th.
